Medical male circumcision: do women in Swaziland welcome it for their sons and at what age?

Work to understand the attitudes, barriers and enablers among women to early infant male circumcision

Abstract

Women were highly knowledgeable about the health benefits of medical circumcision, although knowledge of the comparative risks and benefits of early infant male circumcision (EIMC) and adult circumcision was poor.

All the women said they would have their sons circumcised, but there was significant variation in the age at which they felt it would be most appropriate.

This research is supported by the Department for International Development’s COMDIS–HSD Programme which is led by the University of Leeds
