Adopted EU recommendation GEN-037. UK approved recommendation on the testing of an item of marine equipment that functions as a component part of a system.
Question
Where an item of equipment is a component of a system, is it required that the technical file provides details of how the system works, so that it can be understood that the component is working as expected?
Recommendation
Yes, in particular when the correct performance of an item of equipment is dependent on, or may be affected by, the layout of the system in which it is called to operate. In this case, the system needs to be satisfactorily described in the technical file in order to ensure that the equipment is properly assessed against the applicable requirements.
Subsequent limitation of use should be clearly stated in the certificate.
