Summary
On 6 August 1999 wooden fishing vessel Radiant Star III left Peterhead, Scotland with its partner vessel on a pair trawling trip. The vessels made slight contact during a towing test which later was discovered to have causing flooding in the engine room. The cause was found to be at least one broken plank on the port side of the hull. The leak could not be stopped and the pumps could not cope with the rate of flooding. The vessel sank 60 miles north-east of Fraserburgh. All crew transferred safely to the partner vessel.
