Management and control information

Just after midnight each day the computer examines all entries and extracts for output by batch processing.

Various reports are printed for Policy, Central Processing Unit (CPU) and NCH use, some on a daily basis, others weekly, monthly or quarterly.

These reports include information about entry input and route activity, entry throughput times, customs operational statistics, use of Import Clearance Status (ICS) codes, selection monitoring and entries on which post-clearance action of various types is required.

Other information

Other information provided includes:

  • details of accounting transactions for processing on ASD systems
  • printed weekly FAS statements for Direct Trader Input (DTI) paying agents
  • schedule of quota claims
  • details of trade statistics and reports for the Statistics Office
  • lists of entries, suppliers etc required by Valuation section, and
  • selected monitoring statistics.

Historical information retrieval

When entries are cleared of CHIEF their records are removed and loaded on to the Management Support System (MSS). Details on interrogating these records can be obtained from Operations MSS Southend. Email: frontiersmssteam@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk

System or data faults

You may discover faults either in the way the computer processes information or the information itself held in the computers standing data. In some cases the computer will recognise that a hardware fault exists and display the appropriate response on the VDU, in other cases staff may discover the fault.
