| Terms | Definition |

| Outcomes of our standards | Include both the required outcomes and specific expectations set in our standards |
| Landlord | A registered provider of social housing |
| Private registered provider | Organisations registered with us that are not local authority landlords, such as non-profit housing associations, co-operatives, or profit-making organisations |
| Small landlords | Those who own fewer than 1,000 social homes |
| Large landlords | Those who own 1,000 or more social homes |
| For-profit landlord | As defined in s115 of the Housing and Regeneration Act 2008 |
| Not-for-profit landlord | As defined in s115 of the Housing and Regeneration Act 2008 |
| Tenant | Tenants and other occupiers of social housing which includes licensees and shared owners |
| Social homes | Social housing as defined in sections 68-70 of the the Housing & Regeneration Act 2008 |
