Wessex Water Services Limited: application made to abstract water

Wessex Water Services Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number 13/44/041/G/005 which authorises the abstraction of water from groundwater at National Grid Reference ST 70 01.

The variation applied for is to increase the abstraction quantities at one of the boreholes from 161,568 cubic metres per year to 315,360 cubic metres per year and to change the on/off augmentation trigger for two of the amenity ponds to a higher flow figure than the current licence.

The current licence allows for abstraction from four boreholes. Two boreholes are used for the purpose of public water supply and two boreholes are used for the purpose of augmenting a river and three amenity ponds.
