Technical solutions

SSG technical solutions is a Technical Authority assessing the requirements of the customer and providing independent unbiased advice on security solutions. Working alongside government security authorities ensures our knowledge is up-to-date and at the leading edge of technology. The SSG in-house manufacturing facility produces high security alarm monitoring and signalling equipment.

Technical solutions is divided into four individual teams:

  • Assurance and Compliance
  • Protective Security Advisory Team (PSAT)
  • Production Development and Support (PDS)
  • Group Security Advisory Team

The Assurance and Compliance Team is responsible for providing SSG operations and SSG customers with governance, quality assurance to ISO 9001:2015, compliance with security and government standards via the National Security Inspectorate (NSI) Gold, Health & Safety and Environmental advice to ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in conjunction with DIO Regional Health and Safety Advisors and Safety, Health and Environmental Management System policy, The team also provide a group Security Advisory role for compliance with MOD JSP 440, OGD Government Functional Standard GovS 007 as part of the Security Policy Framework (SPF) and Critical National Infrastructure security policies. The team provides professional support to SSG operations and advice and compliance to SSG customers. The team has an annual assurance programme covering all its disciplines and provides subject matter expertise playing a key role in championing the improvement and development of quality and compliance practices.

The Protective Security Advisory Team (PSAT) assesses customer requirements and provides unbiased advice on security solutions. Working alongside government security authorities ensures advice is up-to-date and at the leading edge of technology. The team evaluates commercial security products and runs training courses on high-end physical and electronic security.  PSAT reviews security as a business cost, balancing risks and returns to establish value for money and develop an effective solution based on customer operational requirements. All assessment is provided in accordance with the Government Functional Standard GovS 007 as part of the government Security Policy Framework, MOD JSP 440 and all relevant British and European standards.  

The Production, Development and Support (PDS) Team is responsible for implementing security standards for the production and through life support of the AC12M family of products. Research and Development staff work closely with government authorities such as Defence Security Resilience (DSR), the National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) and British and European standards. The team’s role also requires a deep awareness of emerging European and government standards.  

Staff also undertake a range of development activities, for customers specific needs not exclusive to, the AC12M (high security alarm monitoring system), The manufacturing has the benefit of an in-house workshop that has the capability to build a variety of systems, meeting NPSA Standards, Euro Standards and to quality standard BSI 9001:2015. The team produces the AC12M family of in-house products, a fully programmable high security alarm monitoring system that is approved to the highest government classification. Using digital technology, it was specifically designed to meet the rigorous requirements of wider government, is versatile, and fully compatible with selected commercial security management systems. The team also undertakes Factory Acceptance Tests (FATS) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and can be tasked to integrate complex configurations of intruder detection systems (IDS), video surveillance systems (VSS), automatic access control systems (AACS) and perimeter intruder detection systems (PIDS).

Group Security Advisory Team is responsible for implementing security standards by fulfilling the corporate security function through advice and influence in relation to MOD security policies, other government departments and CNI and facilitate the security clearances of staff and contractors via UK Security Vetting (UKSV). Compliance in accordance with the Government Functional Standard GovS 007 as part of the Security Policy Framework, MOD JSP 440, NPSA and relevant British and European standards covering Security Awareness, Guidance and Training, Project Security, Threat briefs, Establishment Security, Risk and Business Continuity Management, Cyber, Security Priorities and Security Instructions.

Operational capability

SSG’s operational capability extends worldwide with a permanent presence in a number of UK and European locations. SSG provides electronic and physical security solutions and through life support, 24 hours a day 365 days a year. SSG operations has four functional areas:

  • management and installation project support
  • electronic security
  • physical security and Security Furniture Services (SFS)
  • maintenance

Management and installation support to projects

SSG’s security design and installation capability covers the smallest of installations up to a complete building or site. SSG supply and install several physical measures including perimeter fencing and gates, automatic access control systems (AACS), security lighting, perimeter intruder detection systems (PIDS), alarms, and video surveillance systems (VSS). Internally security can cover doors, windows and secure rooms. Security furniture can also be matched with internal intruder alarms and automatic access control systems to provide total confidence.

Electronic security

SSG specialise in fully integrated electronic security solutions:

  • Alarm signalling
  • Security lighting

  • Access and automatic access control (AACS)

Physical security

SSG supply and install a number of physical measures which can be fully integrated with existing electronic systems. These include:

  • Perimeter fences
  • Automatic barriers, gates, rising bollards and blockers
  • Building construction, hardening
  • Windows and glazing
  • Security doors and door furniture
  • Strong and secure rooms

Security Furniture Services (SFS)

Supply a full range of security furniture from secure filing cabinets to high security safes. All are approved to government standards and can produce ‘special’ non-standard items. From our Security Furniture Services Team customers can order a range of security furniture via our comprehensive catalogue for delivery throughout the UK and overseas.

Maintenance

SSG provide a full through-life maintenance service to ensure operational availability of security systems. A flexible range of all-inclusive planned and reactive maintenance options are offered covering all aspects of technical security. Response times and scheduling can be tailored to meet customer needs.
