Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the River Meon at National Grid Reference SU 54260 05325.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 222 cubic metres an hour

  • 5,315 cubic metres a day

  • 1,939,989 cubic metres a year

  • between 01 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.

The water will be used for creating and maintaining water meadows. The abstraction is non consumptive and the water will be returned to the River Meon with no intervening use.
