DCMS commissioned this evidence summary by RAND to provide a comprehensive, systematic and critical assessment of the scope and quality of available evidence on factors influencing domestic tourism. It draws on a wide range of factors influencing domestic tourism, including, but not limited to, economic factors, transport, demographics and specific-location attributes. The research identifies evidence gaps in understanding the impact of publicly funded domestic marketing and suggests further areas for research.

This report was commissioned prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and was completed in 2020.
