Introduction

The use of BowTieXP along with BowTieServer facilitates a coherent approach to risk management across all groups and commands. Whilst the MAA does not mandate the use of any particular methodology it is recognised that the user community requires support in the coordinated use of the BowTieXP and BowTieServer applications.

Methodology

There are differing BowTie methodologies across the defence air environment. Often these documents are compiled by the operating duty holder (ODH) level air safety teams to ensure a unified approach across a particular group / command. This can ensure that all BowTies are compiled in such a way that the ODH or accountable manager (military flying) can understand and can avoid confusion across different platforms. The MAA do not mandate a particular type of methodology as this may not be the most effective method of risk management for all organisations. The MAA do, however, hold a pan-group methodology document for the purpose of version control. This document is created by the user community and held by the MAA. It is not created by the MAA. It is compiled in such a way that provides a certain level of uniformity across BowTies without restricting a particular groups methodology. The pan group methodology can be found within the DSA BowTie sharepoint site which also has further useful documents for users.
