Mel Barlow

Biography

Mel Barlow became His Majesty’s Ambassador to Laos in September 2023.

Mel was most recently Deputy Ambassador in Kathmandu (2022 to 2023). She joined the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in 2002 and has previous postings to Tokyo (2005 to 2011) and Seoul (2015 to 2018). She has worked on trade policy, conflict prevention and consular issues while serving in London.

The Ambassador represents His Majesty The King and the UK government in the country to which they are appointed. They are responsible for the direction and work of the Embassy and its Consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
