Biography

Edward Evans’ first posting was to Jerusalem where he led on Middle East Peace Process issues, human rights and international law. He has also been posted to Mogadishu (leading on security sector reform) and Ottawa (responsible for trade and post-Brexit relations). His last role before coming to Azerbaijan was in London as Assistant Head of the Euro Atlantic Security Policy Unit leading on NATO issues.

Edward studied Medieval History at Manchester University and worked for the Houses of Parliament before joining the Diplomatic Service.

Deputy Head of Mission, Azerbaijan

The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
