Chris Brown

Biography

Chris Brown was appointed Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy Harare in July 2012, after a spell as Senior Advisor to David Cameron and Nick Clegg in the No 10 Policy Unit.  An economist, he has spent most of his career in the UK Treasury, working variously on health, education and unemployment policy.  With extensive expertise in public spending, he worked closely with Chief Secretary Danny Alexander in devising the 2010 Comprehensive Spending Review. 

In 2004-05 he served in Iraq as First Secretary Economic in the British Embassy, where he advised the incoming Iraqi government on its economic policy including negotiations with the IMF.  He is married to Sophie Tidman, also an economist, and enjoys running, golf and cricket.
