Detail of outcome

The government response to this consultation on the proposed business model for power BECCS confirms the following positions:

  • the Dual CfD mechanism (‘CfDc + CfDe’) which values both the negative emissions and electricity generated
  • support for the transport and storage (T&S) fees being calculated and paid separately
  • confirmation of a supply chain emission threshold in the model. This position will not declare our approach or unit of measurement, just indication of inclusion

The response outlines the next steps:

  • we will continue to progress business model development and engagement with interested parties, working across government to ensure alignment with other developing policies
  • to enable this, we are keen to continue engaging with industry, NGOs, academia and other interested parties and will establish a series of regular engagement sessions. We plan to use these engagement sessions to gather further evidence and develop the design of the business model

We received 1,024 responses to this consultation:

  • 37 were individual responses from organisations
  • the rest were from a coordinated email campaign where a significant amount of these were identical responses
