Ofsted Freedom of Information request datasets
This collection gathers together datasets that were provided in response to FOI (Freedom of Information) requests.
Publication of FOI datasets
Ofsted must publish datasets which are disclosed as a result of Freedom of Information requests.
This is due to a change to legislation which came into effect on 1 September 2013 and brought in this requirement for public authorities like Ofsted.
The majority of dataset requests that Ofsted receives are for information that we already routinely make available, or subsets of information that can be obtained by using filters provided with the data:
- inspection and regulation data, including inspection outcomes
- business expenses of senior officials including hospitality.
The requirement to publish datasets includes publishing updated versions of those datasets if applicable: Ofsted will add the additional requested information into its routine publications and update those at appropriate intervals.
Information exempt from disclosure
Some information which is requested is exempt from disclosure to the public under the Freedom of Information Act, so it is not appropriate for us to make this available. Examples include the locations of women’s refuges, some military bases and all children’s homes; and the personal data of providers and staff.
Ofsted also considers that the names and addresses of registered childminders are their personal data and it is not appropriate to make these publicly available unless those individuals have given their explicit consent to do so.
