£2.8 million invested in Camlough Lake Recreation Centre (Levelling Up Fund 2)

£2.8 million from the Levelling Up Fund was awarded to Newry Mourne and Down to build a new recreation centre at Camlough Lake.

New Recreation Centre

This will attract new visitors and improve health and wellbeing through water sports facilities in the Newry Mourne and Down District.

It will provide:

  • improved pedestrian and vehicle access to the lake
  • facilities for water sports that are accessible 24/7
  • good parking provision, seating and picnic areas
  • toilets, changing rooms, showering and storage facilities
  • meeting space to host official events and indoor activities

Impact in Newry, Mourne and Down

The new multi-purpose recreation centre is expected to:

  • increase participation in outdoor recreation and water sports at Camlough Lake
  • improve health and wellbeing
  • increase tourism
  • support local economic growth
  • provide better accessibility to the lake
