The Food Data Transparency Partnership (FDTP) is a partnership between government, industry, academia, and civil society to drive positive change in the food system through better and more transparent food data.

This paper sets out some of the current and future work being carried out by the FDTP and beyond to standardise the food and drink industry’s approach to quantification and communication of environmental impacts. This includes our proposed approach towards:

  • reporting mechanisms and protocols for scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions company reporting and product level accounting
  • primary data collection, especially at farm level
  • secondary data consistency, accuracy and accessibility
  • data infrastructure and governance required for collecting and communicating data
  • eco-labelling policy

This paper draws together the outcomes of FDTP working group conversations between industry and academic experts. While every effort has been made for this document to represent the collective view of group members, we recognise that there is a wide range of views across the food system and may not be representative of the views of all FDTP group members. Reflection, debate and further stakeholder engagement will continue.
