Biography

The Rt Hon Margaret Beckett GBE was appointed to the Committee on Standards in Public Life on 1 November 2010 and was last reappointed on 1 November 2022 for a further 3 year term.

Margaret Beckett was first elected as Labour MP for Derby South in 1983. She was Secretary of State for Trade and Industry 1997-1998, President of the Council and Leader of the House of Commons 1998-2001, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs 2001-2006, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs 2006-2007, and Minister for Housing and Planning 2008-2009. She has also been Chair of the Intelligence and Security Committee. Margaret is a member of the Labour National Executive Committee (1980-1981, 2012-) and is Chair of the Joint Committee on National Security Strategy.
