About

The Taking Part survey has run since 2005 and is the key evidence source for DCMS. It is a continuous face to face household survey of adults aged 16 and over in England and children aged 5 to 15 years old. This latest series of reports present adult data from April 2014 to March 2015.

Revisions

Amendment on 13 September 2018: This publication has been revised since it was first published on 15th November 2017 following the discovery of an error. The revisions affect the factors affecting participation in and attendance at sporting and cultural events and activities. More details are provided in the “Focus on: Barriers to participation, disability” report and the data tables.

Next release date

A release of rolling annual estimates for adults, including the first half of the 2015 to 2016 survey year, is scheduled for 17 December 2015.

Summary

This series of report presents additional analysis of the annual Taking Part adult survey covering art forms, free time activities, digital engagement, barriers to participation and society.

The previous Taking Part release was published on 23 July 2015.

The document above contains a list of ministers and officials who have received privileged early access to this release of Taking Part data. In line with best practice, the list has been kept to a minimum and those given access for briefing purposes had a maximum of 24 hours.

  1. The 'Factors affecting participation' chapter of the barriers to participation/disability report, and the associated tables, have been amended. A question on factors affecting participation was only asked of respondents who reported that they had a limiting disability or illness, not of all respondents. In the original report, the results were reported both as a proportion of people with a limiting disability, and as a proportion of all adults. Although this is noted in the report, it was potentially misleading and the chapter has been rewritten accordingly.
