This memorandum of understanding (MOU) sets out how the commission and the Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) propose to work together in:

  • coordinating their regulatory operations
  • formulating the policy to which they work

The MOU is not a binding agreement or contract but is intended to promote:

  • effective working and communication between the commission and DEFRA
  • clarity about their respective roles and responsibilities
