List of approved UK laboratories for issuing EU VI-1 analysis reports

Published 28 December 2020

Consignments of wine exported from Great Britain (GB) to the EU are subject to EU third country requirements for wine, which include having an EU VI-1 for third country wine exports. Goods moving from GB into Northern Ireland (NI) are also required to meet EU import marketing standards requirements.

Providing and obtaining analysis reports

Wine exporters are responsible for ensuring that an approved laboratory draws up an analysis report for wine exports produced in the EU and bottled in GB. An approved laboratory in the UK can generate an analysis report or the EU producer can provide one.

The following laboratory is approved to provide analysis reports for the purpose of completing a VI-1 document:

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) does not allow laboratories outside of this list to authorise analysis results.

Getting approval for issuing analysis reports

To be added as an approved laboratory, send a copy of your ISO/IEC 17025 UKAS certificate along with the name of your company, company registration details including registered address and trading address to Wine.Exports@defra.gov.uk.

Approved laboratories are required to have ISO/IEC 17025 UKAS accreditation.

Once approved, Defra will add the names of additional laboratories to the list and notify the EU accordingly.
