VSME19000 - Check on business activities: structure and organisation of the business

  • record on the ‘Other Details’ tab within ‘Accounts Details’ screen on EF ‘Summary’ the Structure and Organisation of the business. If complex, this may be easier to record within the EF Audit screen;
  • record how business is generated, including electronic means (such as Internet), advertising, “mail shots”, word-of-mouth, who does the work (employees, subcontractors) and how supplies are delivered (post, courier, information services);
  • record details of branches, for example has the trader; opened any branches/other premises; altered the activities of any branches/other premises;
  • record in detail the structure of any VAT Group or company organised in Divisions. Record details of corporate groups, which differ from the VAT group;
  • it is also important to record the methods of cash control for example who cashes up, who does the banking, who records DGT and when, the number, make and model numbers of electronic tills;
  • record details of audit trails, flowcharts for example, noting EF accordingly, and expanding on the Audit screen as necessary;
  • where relevant, opening hours for the various premises should be recorded; and
  • ask the trader to provide a current “Z” Reading from the till and record the Retail Selling Price of main categories of standard-rated goods for the benefit of the next assurance officer.
