Fit and Proper Test: Carrying out the Fit and Proper Background Checks

After we have confirmed the person’s identity we will continue with the F and P test.

The checks are carried out by the Risk & Intelligence Service (RIS). RIS have 21 days to complete the checks and advise Registration of the results of the checks made. The Registration Team will check the daily report of completed F&P checks to make sure they are completed within 21 days.

RIS also checks that if the business was previously registered under the Regulations it has been compliant with the requirements of the Money Laundering Regulations 2007, the Money Laundering Regulations 2003 and the Money Laundering Regulations 2001.

Finally RIS looks at the results of the background checks and decides whether the person has passed.

The results of the test are recorded on DTR and the F&P database.

When:

  • All F&P applications for the business have been processed;
  • Application for registration has been processed; and
  • The correct fees have been paid,

we file the application forms in the Business’s Registration File using the MLR registration number allocated to the business on DTR.
