Head of DFID China
We work with the Chinese government to help reduce poverty in other developing countries.
In March 2011 DFID closed its bilateral aid programme to China.
Our relationship with China now focuses on working together, where we share objectives, to maximise the development impact of China’s aid and investments in developing countries to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); to positively shape China’s engagement in the international development system and its contribution to global public goods including efforts to overcome anti-microbial resistance and contagious diseases; and to ensure China’s development experience informs and contributes to global development best practice.
China is already a major force on global development issues, and other developing countries may be able to learn from China’s unparalleled success in reducing domestic poverty and progress towards the SDGs.
