Representatives from 12 West Midlands companies have visited Sydney and Melbourne this week as part of a trade mission aimed at helping them explore and develop commercial opportunities in Australia.

Consul-General & Director General of Trade and Investment for Australia and New Zealand, Nick McInnes, welcomed the delegates at a reception in Sydney on Tuesday 3rd December 2013.

“The West Midlands region is home to 75,000 companies including almost 1,200 international firms, and we are delighted that many of them are choosing to bring their expertise to Australia,” said McInnes. “The strength of the West Midland’s digital and IT expertise is particularly evident with eight out of the 12 companies workings in this area.”

The UK is Europe’s leading market for software and IT services with a market value of £58 billion per annum.

Other companies on the trade mission were from the professional and business services, fashion, retail, consumer goods and mining sectors.

During the trade mission delegates met with potential buyers, agents and prospective business partners to discuss their plans for entering the Australian market.

The West Midlands region includes the city of Birmingham, the second largest UK city, as well as Coventry, Worcester, Stoke-on-Trent and Wolverhampton.
