Visit of His Royal Highness, The Duke of York, KG to Geneva, Switzerland

Founded in 1954, this year CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, is celebrating 60 years of science for peace. His Royal Highness,The Duke of York, KG will participate in the celebrations representing the UK at the official ceremony.

On Monday, 29 September 2014, His Royal Highness, The Duke of York, KG will visit Geneva, Switzerland to participate in CERN’s 60th anniversary celebrations.

His Royal Highness will represent the UK at the official ceremony, at the request of Her Majesty’s Government. This ceremony is the highlight of a month of activities at CERN dedicated to celebrating “60 years of science for peace”.

His Royal Highness’s visit is part of His efforts to raise awareness of and promote British science, technology and engineering expertise. HRH is convinced that scientists and engineers make a crucial contribution to addressing pressing contemporary challenges and support the UK’s long-term prosperity.

In addition to attending the CERN anniversary ceremony, His Royal Highness will meet and hold discussions with British scientists, representatives from British business and heads of international agencies.

The Duke of York’s visit reflects His commitment to education and skills, entrepreneurship, science and technology.
