Event organised by Italy Science and Innovation team informs £150,000 government funding for hub.
The UK government has agreed to invest £150,000 to catalyse the setting up of a new industry-led online Copyright Hub. The Hub’s goal will be to make copyright licensing more user friendly, something that could be worth £2.2bn to the UK economy by 2020 according to Ian Hargreaves, Professor of Digital Economics at Cardiff University.
The investment was greatly influenced by an event organised last November by the UK Government’s Science and Innovation Team in Italy. The pan-European event looked at issues relating to digital copyright and brought together some leading thinkers in the sector including Professor Hargreaves and Richard Hooper, former Ofcom deputy chairman and author of a feasibility study into setting up a digital copyright exchange.
The Italy Team worked with the UK’s Creative Industries Knowledge Transfer Network to stage the event and it was supported through the UKTI’s Global Partnership Fund.
