With the aim of supporting legal and judicial reform in Cambodia, the British Embassy in Phnom Penh is sponsoring a training workshop on “English Jurisprudence related to Company and Insolvency Law” for Cambodia’s first and second intakes of commercial judge trainees.

UK legal expert Professor Michael Schillig from King’s College London is conducting a week-long training workshop for a combination of 150 commercial judge trainees, current trainee judges, and many other judicial professional trainees at the Royal Academy for Judicial Professions (RAJP).

The workshop is intended to train Cambodian commercial judge trainees and trainee judges on English court precedents related to company law in general and insolvency law in particular, with a focus on the development of case law and how it affects business operations going through insolvency proceedings.

RAJP President Professor CHHORN Proloeung said:

The training workshop will equip commercial judge trainees, trainee judges, and other judicial professional trainees with broader knowledge, experience, and methodology in preparing insolvency proceedings, particularly techniques in nominating temporary company administrators and planning company revival.

Attending the opening ceremony, the Chargée d’Affaires of the British Embassy said:

I’m pleased that the UK is able to help contribute to capacity building in Cambodia’s legal and judicial sectors. The workshop will help commercial judge trainees, trainee judges, and other judicial professional trainees to learn critical jurisprudence theories as well as skills in handling commercial and insolvency cases. I hope that following the workshop, the RAJP will be able to train more judges and other judicial professionals in the future in order to help improve the business environment in Cambodia.
