Bulgarian school delegation visits Liverpool

The UKTI team in Sofia together with the British Council in Bulgaria have supported the increased collaboration between the British Aspire Trust and a group of Bulgarian schools.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The Aspire Trust was founded in 2002 as an education action zone to help schools in deprived areas. Since then, the Aspire Trust has grown into an international enterprise with links in Europe, India, the Middle East, and Nigeria.

After meetings with the UKTI and British Council teams in Sofia and with subsequent support from the British Council, in March 2013 the Aspire Trust hosted a visit by a Bulgarian delegation of school principals and representatives from the Regional Education Inspectorate Sofia. The delegation participated in discussions and exchanged best practice with over 15 schools from the Liverpool region. The British educational system, methodology and learning process organisation were some of the discussed topics.

As part of the visit the delegation, which was led by the director of the Regional Education Inspectorate Sofia, Ms Vanya Kastreva, was received by the Liverpool Deputy Lord Mayor, Gary Miller. The two discussed the opportunities of common projects and sharing of innovation that would lead to strong advancement of the educational institutions in the two countries.

The Bulgarian delegation commented:

the visit was very interesting, useful and productive. The Bulgarian participants had the chance to learn about the education system in the UK and some cutting edge school systems as part of the UK national programme Schools of the Future. There are many initiatives that will be developed further in collaboration with Aspire Trust.
