Today marks the eighth anniversary of the accession of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to the rulership of the State of Kuwait. His Highness assumed his role as the Amir of Kuwait on 29 January 2006.

On this occasion, the British Embassy in Kuwait extended its sincere congratulations and re-affirmed the strong and historic bonds that define UK-Kuwait relations.

Speaking on this occasion the British Ambassador, Frank Baker stated:

Many congratulations to His Highness Sheikh Sabah Ahmed Al Jabber Al Sabah on the eighth anniversary of his rule. We in the UK are particularly grateful for his strong leadership in deepening our close bilateral relationship, crowned by his historic State Visit to the UK in November 2012. More broadly, His Highness remains a leading voice on the world stage for peace, moderation and friendly relations. And Kuwait under his rule, as seen in the recent hosting of the successful UN pledging conference for Syria, remains a staunch supporter of humanitarianism and international cooperation.
