This guidance is for:

  • college governors
  • accounting officers (CEOs and principals)
  • chief financial officers
  • governance professionals

It applies to:

  • further education (FE) colleges
  • sixth-form colleges
  • designated institutions

The guidance sets out:

  • how the Department for Education (DfE) will work with all colleges to identify any financial and quality issues that might hinder their success
  • updates to our intervention policy, following the reclassification of colleges as part of the central government sector

  1. Updated ‘College oversight: support and intervention’ to show ways of working post-reclassification. This includes information on the steps the government will take where there is non-compliance with the managing public money framework as set out in the college financial handbook.
