Notarial and documentary services guide for Zambia

How someone in Zambia can get documents legalised, witnessed or certified, take an oath of British citizenship and obtain informative notes.

Overview

The British High Commission Zambia can provide a limited range of document services for British nationals in Zambia.

For legal reasons, we cannot provide notarial services or take affidavits in Commonwealth countries. You should contact a local notary. A standard letter is available to confirm we do not offer these services in Zambia.

You must make an appointment for each service that requires your personal attendance.

Before booking, make sure you have selected the correct service and that the document will be accepted by the relevant authority. This could be the local town hall, registry office, tax authorities, immigration office or another authority either in Zambia, the UK or a third country.

Administer Oath of Allegiance

We offer the administration of Oath of Allegiance. You will be contacted to book an appointment for your Oath of Allegiance once your citizenship certificate has been received at the Embassy from the Home Office.

Emergency travel documents

We can issue an Emergency travel document if you’re in Zambia and your passport has been lost or stolen, damaged or expired, and you can’t get a new or replacement passport in time to travel.

Witness life certificates

To witness life certificates for British nationals claiming a British pension abroad, please refer to the list of people working in a recognised profession who can do this for you.

Legalise a document

This service only confirms that the signature or seal on a document is genuine. It does not certify the authenticity of a document or give approval of its content. UK public documents can be legalised by the Legalisation Office.

Data protection

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office holds and uses data for purposes notified to the Information Commissioner under the Data Protection Act 1998. Such personal data may be disclosed to other UK government departments and public authorities.
