This folder has statistics on the inspection of maintained schools in England. This annual release comprises commentary, 
charts and tables in .pdf format, charts and tables in Excel format, and the underlying data in Excel and comma separated 
values (.csv) format.

The following field names and descriptors provide a guide on the data within the .csv file and Excel file containing the 
underlying data. 

From 1 September 2012 inspection events and their outcomes for maintained schools are reported under a new framework in 
accordance with Section 5 and 8 of the Education Act 2011. Information regarding the new inspection framework can be 
found on the Ofsted website:

All judgements made during these inspections map across frameworks and have been included in the relevant tables and charts.

Field name 			Description

Unique reference number		A unique number to distinguish between each individual provider

LAESTAB				The local authority establishment code registered with the Department for Education

School name			The name of the school

Government office region	The goverment Office region in which a school resides

Local authority (education)	The Local authority in which a school resides

Parliamentary constituency	The parliamentary constituency in which a school resides

Postcode			The postcode of the school

Type of establishment		How the provider is classified

Phase				Ofsted phase of education

Inspection number		The inspection number for related inspections data

Inspection start date		The start date of the inspection

Inspection end date		The end date of the inspection. This dates is used to make reference to the 
				date of inspection throughout the release.

Inspection type			The type of inspection that has occurred. 
				Includes full inspection and re-inspection.

Inspection judgements		1 = Outstanding
				2 = Good 
				3 = Requires improvement
				4 = Inadequate 
				"SWKS"	= Serious Weaknesses
				"SM"	= Special Measures				
				9 	= Not inspected
				NULL	= No grade expected

Predecessor URN			The unique reference number of the predecessor school of an academy converter.
				In the underlying data file which includes school’s most recent inspection outcomes, 
				the predecessor URNs are reported on for all academy converters. 


Warning Notices			Number of warning notices issued against a school in the academic year. 
				For latest inspections, it will be those issued in the   academic year
