Details

The main trends for entries and late entries for GCSE, AS and A level for 2017 to 2018 academic year in England were:

  1. The number of late GCSE entries has increased by 22% from 471,685 to 573,475, which represents a proportional increase from 3.3% of total entries in 2016/17 to 4.2% of total entries in 2017/18.
  2. Number of late AS/A level entries has decreased by 12% from 86,100 to 75,830, which represents a slight proportional increase from 2.3% of total entries in 2016/17 to 2.7% of total entries in 2017/18.
  3. Number of GCSE certificates awarded has remained stable with just over 5.2 million GCSE certificates awarded in academic year 2017/18.
  4. There has been a 29% decrease in AS/A level certificates from academic year 2016/17 to 2017/18, mainly due to the decoupling of AS and A levels.
