Where

Romney Reach (A332 Windsor/Eton Relief Road Bridge to the Windsor and Eton Footbridge).

Details

The navigation channel will be on the Eton, north, right side of the river. The navigation channel will be a one-way channel.

There will be a safety boat at each end of the channel as well as marshals at Boveney and Romney locks. The marshals and safety boats will be in contact with one another and the safety boats will escort river users along the navigation channel one direction at a time. Please do not attempt to navigate against the advice of the event safety team. They are there to ensure your safety as well as the swimmers.

Swimmers will be using a buoyed channel between the A332 Windsor/Eton Relief Road Bridge and Windsor and Eton Footbridge on the Windsor, south, left side of the river.

Regatta boards will mark the upstream and downstream extent of the course.

Masters of all boats must navigate extremely slowly and maintain a good lookout between the A332 Windsor/Eton Relief Road Bridge and the Windsor and Eton Footbridge.

In addition to the safety escort boats a number of safety kayaks will be in attendance operating just outside the swimming channel, in the navigation channel, please be prepared to give way if they are involved in a rescue.

All boats must be navigated in accordance with any instructions given from the event safety boats, marshals and Environment Agency control points or patrol launches.

Those in charge of boats should be aware that they are responsible for avoiding collision and should use all available means appropriate to the circumstances and conditions to decide if there is a risk of immediate danger and avoid it.

All directions as to river left and river right are given looking upstream.

Byelaws

Nothing contained in these directions shall supersede those parts of the Thames Navigation Licensing and General Byelaws 1993 as may be relevant.

And Notice is hereby given, that it is provided by Byelaw 52 of the Thames Navigation Licensing and General Byelaws, 1993 that:

The master of any vessel shall except in an emergency not pass any boat-race regatta public procession or gathering for the launch of a vessel or any other event or function which may cause a crowd to assemble on or by the river nor station his vessel thereon in such a manner as would risk obstructing impeding or interfering with such boat-race regatta procession launching event or function or endangering the safety of persons assembling on the river or preventing or interfering with the maintenance of order thereon.

The maximum penalty for breach of the Byelaws is £1,000.
