As the summer holidays come to an end, it is time to prepare for going back to school. Alongside getting the new uniform, it is a great time to make sure that children and young people are up to date with all their routine vaccinations. Year 13’s and those going onto university and some residential colleges for the first time in autumn 2026 have been being vaccinated against MenB as part of the current time limited offer.

Many thanks to all the parts of the health family that have facilitated the over 90,000 vaccinations and appointments that have been completed so far.

For younger children making their way into education for the first time, its important to ensure they are up to date with their childhood immunisations including 2 doses of measles containing vaccine.

From 01 September 2026, there will be an expansion in the eligibility for RSV vaccination to include adults aged 65 to 74 years in certain clinical risk groups. Two new guides have been published to provide guidance for specialist providers and SEND co-ordinators in mainstream schools and parents to support the delivery of the school aged vaccination programmes to children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The Information for parents and carers leaflet provides practical information for parents and carers and supports vaccination for school age children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This leaflet is designed to help parents and carers understand the importance and benefits of vaccinations for children and young people with SEND. It seeks to address many of the queries and concerns raised by parents and carers of children with SEND and provides practical advice and information on how to prepare for an immunisation appointment, what to expect, and where to find accurate and reliable trusted sources of information on vaccinations.

The Information for specialist providers and SEND co-ordinators in mainstream schools leaflet is designed for specialist providers and SEND co-ordinators (SENCOs) in mainstream schools and covers practical steps to help children and young people with SEN and disabilities and their families understand why vaccination matters, the benefits of delivering these within school settings, and approaches to make vaccination accessible and inclusive, ensuring they receive the protection they need in a safe and supportive environment.

Friends, Families and Travellers (FFT) are hosting a webinar on 1 September between 11:00 – 12:30 to share progress from our Improving Hepatitis C Awareness and Access for Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Communities project.

This webinar will provide an overview of our 12-month initiative, which aims to improve hepatitis C outcomes for Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities by:

increasing awareness of hepatitis C testing inside and outside the prison estate
improving access to hepatitis C diagnosis and treatment
reducing stigma associated with hepatitis C testing and treatment

During the session, we will share key learning from our community engagement, including insights from interviews and focus groups, showcase our co-produced resources, and provide an update on our work within the prison estate. This includes our delivery of RSPH-accredited Health Awareness training, prison-based education and screening activity, and work to support peer-led approaches.

Surveillance of respiratory syncytial virus: winter 2025 to 2026

UKHSA’s SARI Watch surveillance has found that following the first full year of maternal vaccination, RSV intensive care admissions for infants under six months old fell by 50%. This was with coverage at around 62%. Many babies will have avoided intensive care over winter thanks to the work of NHS vaccinators and NHS immunisation teams – thank you!

In the 2025 to 2026 season:

overall RSV activity across all nations and surveillance systems started around weeks 44 and 45 2025 (start of November), and peaked across nations during weeks 49 to 52 (December) 2025, with some indicators (particularly for older adults), peaking in January 2026. Activity then steadily declined and reached low levels across most nations and surveillance systems in weeks 9 and 10 2026 (ending 2 and 9 March 2026)
across nations and systems the epidemic wave including peak activity appeared to occur later than in previous seasons
in multiple indicators across the nations, lower RSV activity was observed as the vaccination programmes took fuller effect. Increased testing and therefore case ascertainment may have offset vaccination-associated admission reductions in some surveillance systems

Vaccine uptake

Vaccination programmes to protect against RSV began on 1 September 2024 in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, and on 1 August 2024 in Scotland. Data from Northern Ireland during the 2025 to 2026 season was not available for this report.

In England:

65.0% of eligible older adults had received an RSV vaccine by the end of May (50.1% of older adults in the routine cohort, 70.4% of older adults in the catch-up cohorts)
55.6% of women giving birth between the start of the programme and February 2026 had received an RSV vaccine prior to birth. In the last 12 months with complete data (between March 2025 and February 2026) 61.7% of women giving birth had received an RSV vaccine

Vaccination impact

What you need to do:

Plan for the break in deliveries and place your orders in good time, especially for vaccination programmes with upcoming cohort changes, e.g. RSV older adult expansion to adults aged 65 to 74 years in certain clinical at risk groups from 1 September 2026.

Make sure you have enough fridge space for any extra vaccine stock you order before the holiday. Only 2 to 4 weeks of vaccine stock should be held locally.

Emergency or out‑of‑schedule deliveries will not be available if orders are not placed on time.

Supplies of vaccine for the time-limited adolescent meningococcal B (MenB) vaccination programme

Accepted Answer

Meningococcal B (MenB) vaccination using Bexsero® vaccine is now being offered to selected cohorts of adolescents. Details of country-specific programmes have been published online by each Devolved Administration. The details for England, including how to order supporting resources can be found in the Meningococcal B (MenB) time limited vaccination offer letter.

Please note that vaccine for Community Pharmacy delivery in England is not supplied via ImmForm. Community Pharmacies in England can notify NHS England that they intend to provide the service, and order vaccines via NHS England’s Federated Data Platform (FDP). Details can be found in the NHS England – Community pharmacy Men B adolescent service specification.

Other vaccination providers who have been commissioned to deliver this programme can now order from UKHSA the ten-dose pack of Bexsero® vaccine. Delivery will be on their scheduled delivery day. ImmForm customers can use the deferred order function to place orders for future scheduled delivery dates.

To support future analysis of this programme, accurate data will be required on how many packs of Bexsero® vaccine have been supplied for administration in this programme. To help maintain data accuracy, customers should place orders for the Bexsero® product that is specific to the programme. ImmForm customers may see up to three different Bexsero® vaccine product lines and should order accordingly.

These products are each labelled in their product listing on Immform for use in their respective programme (infant, adolescent and GBMSM), and should only be ordered for use in the specified programme. See the print edition of this Vaccine Update, issue 374 for images of these product listings.

Bexsero® vaccine supplied by UKHSA and NHS England is a ten-dose pack, containing ten pre-filled syringes of vaccine and one patient information leaflet (PIL). Each ten-dose pack of Bexsero® vaccine is supplied with a pad of ten additional PILs. The ten-dose pack of Bexsero® vaccine supplied by UKHSA and NHS England does not contain needles for administration. Guidance on the choice of needle size can be found here: Green Book Chapter 4 – Immunisation procedures.

Needles should be obtained locally.

Batch numbers

Some packs of vaccine supplied by UKHSA contain more than one component, e.g. vaccine, diluent, etc. Each of these components may have the same, or different batch numbers and expiry dates. Where those details are different, it is the batch number and expiry date on the outside of the pack that should be used for date checking and recording in patient records.

As an example:

The vial of vaccine powder has an expiry of 11/2027 and the batch number is A31FA032A.

The diluent has an expiry of 10/2027 and the batch number is A31DA032A.

The expiry date printed on the outside of the pack is 10/2027 and the batch number is A31CA032A. This batch number and expiry date should be used for date checking and recording in patient records.

Please note that for traceability purposes, vaccine components should not be mixed between packs.

RSV vaccination expanded eligibility

From 01 September 2026, there will be an expansion in the eligibility for RSV vaccination to include adults aged 65 to 74 years in certain clinical risk groups. Details of this expansion in England have been published here – Expansion of eligibility to adults aged 65 to 74 years in certain clinical at-risk groups letter. The current Abrysvo® vaccine will be used for this expansion of the RSV vaccination programme and is available to order by customers for delivery on the customer’s scheduled delivery day.

Ordering controls will be in place for all customers to reduce the risk of ordering errors. These are not intended to restrict activity.

For customers in Scotland and Wales, bespoke ordering controls will be in place to manage the numbers of pallets transiting through local pinch points in the supply chain. These controls are unchanged from the expansion that took place earlier this year to those aged 80 years and older and residents in care homes for older adults. To help protect the supply chain, customers in Scotland and Wales should consider placing their orders for delivery over several weeks in advance of the start of this expansion, using ImmForm’s deferred order function to assist.

The pack of Abrysvo® vaccine measures 73 mm x 35 mm x 116 mm (H x W x D) and is bigger than most other packs of vaccine. Customers placing large orders should order in multiples of 50 packs (the number in a shipper), or 1,800 packs (the number on a pallet). Please ensure you have enough fridge capacity before placing any orders as returns cannot be accepted.

Abrysvo® vaccine supplied by UKHSA is a single-dose pack, containing the components required to reconstitute one dose of vaccine and one patient information leaflet (PIL). The single-dose pack of Abrysvo® vaccine supplied by UKHSA does not contain needles for administration. Guidance on the choice of needle size can be found here – Green Book Chapter 4. Needles should be obtained locally.

ProQuad® (MMRV) vaccine temporarily unavailable to order

UKHSA continually monitors vaccine stock levels across the national immunisation programme to ensure sufficient supply is available to support routine and catch-up vaccination activity.

ProQuad: To support the efficient management of MMRV vaccine stocks and minimise the risk of vaccine wastage, ordering of ProQuad® vaccine through ImmForm will be temporarily suspended during August and September 2026. Customers requiring MMRV vaccine should order Priorix-Tetra® instead.

Priorix-Tetra® vaccine will remain available to order throughout this period. This is a temporary stock management measure and is not intended to impact routine vaccination activity.

Priorix-Tetra® vaccine is interchangeable with ProQuad® vaccine. Children who started their 2 dose MMRV schedule with one vaccine brand can complete the course with the other brand.

The ten-dose pack of Priorix-Tetra® vaccine supplied by UKHSA contains 10 single-dose vials of vaccine powder, 10 pre-filled syringes of diluent and one patient information leaflet (PIL). Each ten-dose pack of Priorix-Tetra® vaccine supplied by UKHSA will be delivered with a pad of 10 additional PILs. Packs of Priorix-Tetra® vaccine do not contain needles for administration.

Question 9

Vaccines for the 2026/27 children’s flu programme supplied by UKHSA

Timing of the live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) availability for the 2026/27 children’s flu programme Flu vaccines are ‘just in time’ products that are brought to market each year under very pressurised timelines and in very large volumes, following the WHO strain selection announcement in late February each year.

Vaccines are biological products and manufacture can sometimes be unpredictable. There are multiple vaccine ‘platforms’ (for example, egg-based and cell-based), and vaccine production systems differ across these platforms which can impact on timelines for individual products. LAIV is an egg-based vaccine and additionally a ‘live’ vaccine, which adds further complexity and risk to the manufacturing process. This must be taken into account when managing expectations around LAIV availability each year.

Feedback has suggested that confirming dates for LAIV availability in late summer (once vaccine production has reached specific milestones) can create operational challenge. UKHSA and NHS England have therefore been working together to explore how we can improve communication of LAIV availability, with a view to enabling providers to plan their programmes more effectively.

For 2026/27, it has been agreed that UKHSA will share anticipated dates for LAIV availability for general practice and the school age immunisation service earlier than usual, and these are set out below.

However, please note that these dates remain subject to change, and planning for vaccination sessions should continue to take account of this. The latest and most accurate information on all vaccines for the 2026/27 children’s flu programme supplied by UKHSA will be provided on the ImmForm news page, so please check back regularly.

Vaccines and availability

All flu vaccines supplied to general practice (GPs) and the school age immunisation service (SAIS) in England for the 2026/27 children’s flu programme will be available to order via ImmForm. The 2 vaccines that will be available, preliminary indicative ordering dates and the groups that these vaccines should be ordered for are set out in the table below. Community pharmacies who are delivering flu vaccinations to children can access Fluenz® (LAIV) via the Federated Data Platform managed by NHS England. For more information please see the amendment to the annual flu letter and the service specification.

UKHSA does not supply any flu vaccines for patients aged 18 years and over.

Please refer to guidance from your respective health departments for arrangements in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Due to the anticipated large volume of orders for Fluenz® in the first few weeks of ordering, orders for this product will be assembled as soon as they are placed and will not be editable. LAIV ordering information for General Practice

Ordering controls will be in place for general practices, to enable UKHSA to balance supply with demand. These controls will work by allocating an amount of LAIV based on the number of registered eligible patients and will be tailored to each practice.

UKHSA expects to be able to accommodate the following, however at this time, this information remains subject to change:

each GP practice will initially be allocated sufficient LAIV to vaccinate at least 45% of their eligible patients (all 2 and 3 year-olds, plus children in clinical risk groups from age 4 to <18 years) when ordering commences
increases to these allocations will be made in response to demand and vaccine availability

Allocations

You can view how many packs of LAIV your practice has available to order by clicking on the following link to the Allocation report (you will be asked to log in with your ImmForm credentials).

Please note that this report is not updated in real-time and so may not account for any orders or allocation amendments made within the last 30-45 minutes.

Multi-Branch Practices and LAIV allocations

GP practices or groups that operate over multiple sites but are part of the same organisation will have a joint allocation (as in previous years), even where each site has a unique ImmForm account. This means that it is possible for one site to potentially order all of the available vaccine for the group, unless there is local agreement on how the allocated volume is shared. UKHSA recommend that this agreement is in place before ordering opens to reduce the risk of supply interruption. The information above allows practices to estimate the amount of vaccine they will be initially allocated, and how it should be split between all sites.

LAIV ordering information for SAIS providers

Please note the default weekly ordering cap for SAIS teams has been reduced from 450 packs (4,500 doses), to 432 packs (4,320 doses). This adjustment has been made to increase efficiency, allowing for fewer deliveries in fewer vehicles, and a reduction in our carbon footprint.

Where the default cap is insufficient and a provider needs a larger weekly volume of vaccine to deliver the programme (for example where a provider covers a large area using a single account), a higher weekly cap should be requested via the UKHSA Flu Vaccine Operations team by emailing childfluvaccine@ukhsa.gov.uk, please provide your ImmForm account number or Org Code and the increased volume required. Requests should be made by Friday 21 August to ensure that accounts are set up correctly before vaccine ordering commences.

For one-off larger orders during the ordering period, requests should be made via helpdesk@immform.org.uk.

Inactivated flu vaccine ordering

The Cell Based Trivalent Influenza Vaccine (Surface Antigen, Inactivated) (IIVc) will be available to order, in a single dose pack. Order controls will also be in place for this vaccine as follows:

for GPs, there will be an initial cap of 10 doses/packs per week
for school-age providers, there will be a cap of 450 doses/packs per week
