The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from Duranta Teesside Limited.

The current permit allows for the operation of an anaerobic digestion facility under a S5.4 A(1) (b) (i) Recovery or a mix of recovery and disposal of non-hazardous waste with a capacity exceeding 75 tonnes per day (or 100 tonnes per day if the only waste treatment activity is anaerobic digestion) involving biological treatment. This variation request the following changes to this activity:
- Addition of a new primary digester, biomethane upgrading plant and associated flare.
- Increase of the internal tank inspections from 3 – 5 years
- The addition of a new and additional surface water attenuation tank to the site infrastructure to collect surface water accumulating in the new development area.
- Expansion of site boundary
- Addition of 3 x EWC codes
- Removal of emission point A12 Pasteuriser plant scrubbers via a stack. “This scrubber has since been removed and the head space of the pasteurisation system linked into continuity with the gas line, and therefore creating a sealed system with no emission point.”
