The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds has applied to the Environment Agency for a new licence and to vary an existing licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
Application NPS/WR/011743
The application for a new licence is to abstract water from drains in the Littleport and Downham Internal Drainage Board at Coveney, Cambridgeshire to fill and top-up a lake at Coveney, Cambridgeshire.
The application is to abstract water as follows:
1. for the purpose of filling the lake:
- 216 cubic metres an hour
- 5184 cubic metres a day
- 240,000 cubic metres a year
- at an instantaneous rate not exceeding 60 litres per second
- between November and March inclusive in each year
2. for the purpose of topping-up the lake:
- 216 cubic metres an hour
- 5184 cubic metres a day
- 150,000 cubic metres a year
- at an instantaneous rate not exceeding 60 litres per second
- between March and October inclusive in each year

The second application is to vary abstraction licence serial number AN/033/0026/040, which authorises abstraction from drains in the Littleport and Downham Internal Drainage Board at Coveney and Witcham, Cambridgeshire, for the purpose of spray irrigation.
The variation applied for is to change the purpose of abstraction to “supply to a wetland habitat” and to change the point of abstraction to between National Grid References TL 54627 28231 and TL 54695 28366.
