The Representation of the People (Amendment) (Northern Ireland) (EU Exit) Regulations 2022

Find proposed negative statutory instruments (SIs) under the EU (Withdrawal) Act 2018. Before the SIs are formally 'laid' in Parliament, they have to go through a sifting process. A new committee in the House of Commons and the Secondary Legislation Scrutiny Committee in the House of Lords will consider the suitability of the 'negative procedure'.

Details

This instrument corrects deficiencies in Northern Ireland electoral law arising as a result of the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union. The instrument amends the Electoral Law Act (Northern Ireland) 1962 (the “1962 Act”) and Northern Ireland Assembly (Elections) Order 2001 (the “2001 Order”) to ensure that UK passports can continue to be used as voter ID documents at polling stations in Northern Ireland for Northern Ireland Assembly and local elections.
