An application has been made to the Environment Agency by Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. The Environment Agency are required to give notice of this application.

Licence 6/33/52/S/0211 authorises abstraction from the Main Drain within the Manea and Welney Drainage District Commissioners area between National Grid References TL 48230 88077 and TL 48486 87897. Licence 6/33/26/S/0424 authorises abstraction from the River Delph between National Grid References TL 48098 87183 and TL 49014 88417.

The application is to extend the abstraction periods of both licences so that abstractions may also take place between November to February inclusive, with the following additional quantities authorised for abstraction during that period, in aggregate between the two licences:

  • 185 cubic metres an hour
  • 2,000 cubic metres a day
  • 110,000 cubic metres a year

The water will be used for maintaining a wet grassland habitat within the Ouse Washes Nature Reserve, Welches Dam, March, Cambridgeshire.
