Protecting crowded places: design and technical issues

This updated guide, published in April 2014, gives advice about counter-terrorism protective security design.

This guide is aimed at anyone involved in the planning, design and development of the built environment. It covers the preparation of local planning policy to the commissioning, planning, design and management of new development schemes through to detailed building design.

While it draws largely on good practice examples from England and refers to legislation that applies to England, this guide will be of interest to the devolved administrations.

Previously published in March 2010 and January 2012, the main changes to the updated guide are the references to the contributions protective security can make across a range of attack types, changes in legislation and organisation.
