Details of the application

The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from 3R Technology UK Limited.

Regulated facility type

The site currently accepts hazardous plastic wastes arising from Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), including materials containing brominated flame retardants (BFRs). These materials contain Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). The operator is proposing the physical treatment of non-hazardous waste to treat non-hazardous plastics, mirroring the existing hazardous treatment process. The proposal also includes the addition of waste codes and the sorting of non-hazardous batteries arising as a by-product of the treatment activities; batteries will not be accepted on site as a standalone waste stream. The application further proposes additional waste codes for the hazardous plastic treatment activities, along with amendments to waste code descriptions. The operator is also seeking to introduce additional covered waste storage areas.
