These guides are for education professionals including practitioners and system leaders with an interest in the these themes. They are the views of senior stakeholders, project leads, practitioners and professional beneficiaries. The themes covered include:

  • careers education
  • teacher recruitment, retention and workforce development
  • health and education
  • early years
  • place-based working

Delivery plans for the 12 opportunity areas.

The careers guide shares insights from 4 projects across the 12 opportunity areas. These include:

  • building and nurturing networks
  • digital-first approaches
  • employer engagement
  • NEET prevention

The teacher recruitment, retention and workforce development guide shares insights from 5 opportunity areas’ projects. These include:

  • collaborative recruitment
  • financial incentives
  • digital-first marketing
  • building a network of teacher educators

The health and education guide provides insights from 5 projects across the opportunity areas. These include:

  • social, emotional, and mental health support in schools and further education
  • whole-school approaches to emotional health and wellbeing
  • data-led insights to remove health barriers to learning, including ‘Glasses in Classes’
  • early identification of autism

The early years guide provides insights from 5 projects across the opportunity areas. These include:

  • the development of physical literacy to increase self-esteem and improve wellbeing
  • training communication champions to improve speech, language, listening and communication
  • professional development in speech, language and communication
  • building parents’ knowledge and confidence to create a positive home learning environment

The place-based working guide provides the views of some opportunity area partnership board chairs. It includes:

  • characteristics of the opportunity areas place-based approach
  • perceived benefits of the opportunity areas place-based working
  • case study examples that exemplify key points

The school improvement guide provides insights from 5 projects across the opportunity areas. These include:

  • professional development to improve reading, writing, phonics and maths
  • evidence-based interventions in English, maths and science to support with transitions between key stages
  • mastery approaches in maths to improve teaching and learning
  • implementation of a school-to-school support programme
