Non-animal technologies could replace the use of animals in testing the safety and efficacy of new products including pharmaceuticals, veterinary medicines, agrichemicals, chemicals and consumer products.
The market potential for non-animal technologies is huge, and this has led Innovate UK to identify them as one of a series of emerging technologies that could drive future UK economic growth.
This roadmap, vision and strategy has been drawn up by Innovate UK, the National Centre for the Replacement Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, the Defence, Science and Technology Laboratory, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and the Medical Research Council, and has been published on their behalf by Innovate UK.
It sets out a vision and strategy for non-animal technologies in the UK and includes a roadmap that illustrates a broad landscape and timescale for progress up to 2030. It is intended to guide all those working in this area.
