Meat Technical Schemes (MTS) privacy notice

This notice tells you about personal data collection and processing by the Rural Payments Agency (RPA) to manage Meat Technical Schemes (MTS).

1. Purpose for processing

We will use the information you provide to administer and enforce the regulatory framework collectively known as Meat Technical Schemes (MTS). This includes the:

2.  Why we are able to process your personal data

The lawful basis for the processing is ‘public task’. The law allows us to process your personal data under article 6(1)(e) of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). We are allowed to process personal data when we need to carry out a public task.

Any such processing will be supported by a clear legal basis and will only take place when it is essential to perform that task.

The law allows us to process your personal data under:

3.  What personal data we process

The personal information that we collect and process is:

  • the address, telephone number, email address and approval number of the slaughterhouse
  • the full name and address of the operator
  • where the operator is a partnership or has joint owners, the full names and addresses of all the partners in the partnership or owners of the business
  • where the operator is a body corporate, the registration number of the body corporate
  • the name, home address, date of birth and place of work of individuals that apply for a classification licence

We may process your personal data including your email address in any questions or feedback you send to us. We may also use your information to contact you about future grants and updates to farming policy that would be relevant to you.

4.  Your responsibility with other people’s personal data

If you’ve included personal data about other people in your records, you must tell them. You must provide them with a copy of this privacy notice so that they know how their personal data will be used.

5.  Where your personal data is stored

We store, transfer and process your personal data on our servers in the United Kingdom (UK) and the European Union (EU).

6.  How long we keep your personal data

We keep your information for 7 years.

7.  Who we share your personal data with

If your slaughterhouse is in Wales, personal data provided to RPA may be shared with Welsh Government.

Personal data may also be shared with the Government Legal Department (GLD) in instances where monetary penalties have not been paid and need to be recovered.

Where an inspector finds a potential breach or offence which is outside of RPA’s remit, we may forward personal information to the Food Standards Agency (FSA) or other enforcement bodies.
