Details of the application
Hargham Farms and Partners has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a new full licence to abstract water from the Buckenham Stream, a tributary of the River Thet, at South Farm near Eccles, Norfolk.
The application is to abstract water as follows:
- 172 cubic metres an hour
- 4,128 cubic metres a day
- 200,000 cubic metres a year
- All year.
The water will be used for the purpose of storage for subsequent spray irrigation, to fill a planned reservoir of 160,000 cubic metres capacity. The annual quantity is proposed to be aggregated over a 5-year period to not exceed 800,000 cubic metres. The means of abstraction outlined in the application form will entail a side weir structure and associated abstraction chamber. The level of the side weir has currently not been determined but has proposed to be set in line with necessary restrictions for protecting flows in the Buckenham Stream. In addition, the applicant has proposed a variable abstraction rate which will be limited to 10% of the flow.
