The Steering Group meets to advise on the operation of the Food Hygiene Ratings Scheme with a focus on facilitating and promoting consistency of implementation across local authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The Group is independently chaired and its membership comprises consumer, food industry and local authority representatives as well as officials from the FSA and the Department for Business and Trade. It currently meets on an annual basis.
