Details of the application

The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from Mick George Limited.

Regulated facility type

EPR, Schedule 1, Part 2, Section 5.2 Part A1 (a) - Non Hazardous Landfill site (including stable non-reactive hazardous waste).

The application is to request an increase in throughput (50,000 to 200,000 tonnes per annum) of non-hazardous wastes. As well as 200,000 tonnes per annum (currently permitted) of stable non-reactive hazardous waste, asbestos and gypsum. The application also requests an increase of gypsum waste to the site to 30,000 tonnes of gypsum (up from 20,000 tonnes).

Additionally, the application requests:

  • To extend the stable non-reactive hazardous cell (remaining within the current site boundary)
  • Additional wastes types to be added to the permit (see Non-technical summary for list of codes), particularly the importation of air pollution residues waste types.
  • Revised restoration plan.
  • Amendment of the sulphate compliance level in Table S3.3 of the permit.
