The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from Techemet Limited.

Regulated facility type
Techemet Limited has applied to vary its environmental permit to increase and expand the recycling activities already carried out at the site, and to change part of the permitted operation from a waste operation to a hazardous waste installation. The proposal includes increased hazardous waste storage capacity, the storage of more than 50 tonnes of hazardous waste, hazardous waste blending and repackaging, and the treatment of spent catalytic converters to recover metals. The site would also continue its existing non-hazardous metal recycling activities.
All waste treatment activities will be carried out within enclosed buildings. Dust generated during treatment would be controlled using local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems fitted with HEPA filtration, with filtered air recirculated back into the building. Only clean uncontaminated surface water collected from building roofs and external site areas would be discharged from the site.
The variation would increase the scale and range of waste recovery and recycling activities currently authorised by the permit, including the addition of hazardous waste installation activities for the storage, blending, repackaging and treatment of hazardous waste.
