Aquazoom Ltd has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the River Wheelock at Church Farm, Warmingham, CW11 3QP at National Grid Reference SJ 70970 61161.

The application is to abstract water all year as follows:

  • 4,417.20 cubic metres an hour

  • 106,012.08 cubic metres a day

  • 38,694,672 cubic metres a year

  • At a maximum flow rate of 1,227 litres per second.

The water will be used for hydro-electric power production via a vortex turbine installed within an 8 metre purpose built, covered channel adjacent to the River Wheelock. All water abstracted will be returned to the River Wheelock 16 metres downstream of the abstraction point.
